It hosts a third of the government buildings and ministries of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, as well as all security and military leadership. The old Intelligence building was also located in Abdali before relocating to the Jandaweel area.

Before being named Abdali, it was called the Fourth District, then renamed the Ninth District, and finally named Abdali after His Majesty King Abdullah I.
